24. Glass

This video shows how glass is made. Glass is made with the combination of sand, gipser, soda of ash, lime stone and dolomite. With this combination we obtain rigid and uncrystralized liquid. Normally under 3000F sand does not melt but when we combine it with the other ingredients in batch under 3000F the melting point of it decreases. To melt the mixture faster some gasses are added. Then there is ‘Fining Process’ which allows bubles to go out so it will become more smoother. Then there is ‘ Bath Process’ in this process liquid glass flows on the liquid tin. Also there is a sprach machine to set the thickness of glass wtih the wheels. In shoulder glass reaches the final thickness and width. İt is cooled down with the coolers. In Lehr i tis cooled down to 1000F. Beside this the aim of Lehr is put some proper stress into the glass. In cooling area glass becomes more rigd and it goes to the cutting area. They are cut on the conveyor and packed eithe r one plate at a time or in small groups with mostly automatic packing machines. After snaping step there is an inspection for the glasses. Glass goes on to surface which has powder on it which eliminate the seperation of glass. Interesting thing is that raw materials come with rail and off loaded to the individually storage places with conveyor.
